Lower carbon
LPG emits 21% less CO2 than conventional fuels. Renewable liquid gases can lower the carbon footprint of conventional liquid gases by around 80%.

Our Priorities
Liquid gases are a key piece of the energy puzzle and require an appropriate legislative framework. Thanks to liquid gases, millions of European citizens, particularly those living in off-grid rural areas, can take part in the energy transition.
The buildings sector is a key contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, representing 35% of energy-related EU emissions. Liquid gas offers a cost-effective decarbonisation route for rural off-grid communities and ensure no one is left behind in the energy transition.
Road transport represents almost 20% of Europe’s total greenhouse gas emissions and is the main cause of air pollution in cities. To improve air quality today, we need sustainable transport solutions, which are cleaner, accessible and affordable so all EU citizens can take part in the energy transition.
The European liquid gas industry supports the European Union’s ambitious goal to become climate neutral by 2050 and is fully committed to helping achieve it. With the development of renewable liquid gases, such as bioLPG (biopropane) and renewable & recycled carbon DME, the industry stands committed to contributing to a just energy transition.
Liquid Gas Europe is an active contributor to the work of the European regulator responsible for the transportation of dangerous goods, the RID/ADR/ADN. We also provide a forum for members to investigate, communicate and discuss safety-related issues and initiatives. Safety is a preeminent consideration for us and our members.
Liquid Gas Europe supports, liaises with and actively engages in the work of CEN, the European Committee for Standardisation, through various Technical Committees and Working Groups. We also help facilitate the work of the standards advisor in relation to the incorporation of standards within the regulations governing the transportation of dangerous goods in Europe.
Liquid Gas Europe is committed to sustainable and responsible business practices, and we recognise the importance of aligning our efforts with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and relevant European policy objectives. We have encapsulated our ambitions in a Sustainability Charter that outlines the aspirations of our members, which are illustrated in case studies of their sustainability initiatives.
To enable liquid gases and renewable liquid gases to fully contribute to the European Green Deal, we need policies that distinguish between lower-carbon and high-carbon fossil fuels. We need support for alternative fuels with a track record of success, and Member States need the necessary flexibility to tailor energy taxation to their specific needs.
