WGMM Releases Report on Monitoring CO2-Neutral Fuels in Transport

The Working Group on Monitoring Methodologies (WGMM) has officially adopted its report, "Monitoring the Use of CO2 Neutral Fuels in Road Transport." This report is the result of collaboration among over 50 experts from the automotive and fuel industries, trade associations (including Liquid Gas Europe), and researchers. It provides a detailed assessment of 11 technological solutions for tracking and verifying CO2-neutral fuels in new vehicles.

The report outlines a definition for CO2-neutral fuels, aligned with the Renewable Energy Directive (RED), and explores various monitoring solutions, including digital tracking systems, on-board detection, and secure fuel connections. It also presents a roadmap to support Europe’s energy transition while ensuring technical and economic feasibility.
